The Case of our "2 Border Patrol Agents"

U.S. District Court Judge Kathleen Cardone in El Paso, Texas, sentenced Jose Alonso Compean to 12 years in prison and Ignacio Ramos to 11 years several months ago. Since then, the right-wing conservatives have done nothing but complain there was no justice served. There are several points that the news media refuses to include in their consistent complaints of lack of justice.
The fact that the man shot was a drug smuggler is irrelevant. Our laws do not depend on who the victim was or is. We don't give a man charged with vehicular homicide a lighter sentence if he killed "someone who deserved it." We, as a society, don't want our laws concerning rape to take into account the victims history. CNN's constant and ridiculous argument that "he was a drug smuggler" is not the point.
Whether anyone wants to admit it, the man shot was UNARMED and shot in the BUTT. He was shot when he could do nothing to harm either agent. The agents may say that they "thought" they were in danger, but the fact is there is no proof to back up their agrument
A jury of 12 convicted them. This was not simply a judge maing a rash decision. This was a jury of twelve Texans who heard all the evidence and unanamously convicted both of them. They were not convicted of murder but causing serious bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon, discharge of a firearm in relation to a crime of violence and a civil rights violation.
Neither of these men deserve to be released simply because they broke the law and were convicted of harming someone that was dispicable himself. The victim and his life are not the issue. -- by Kevin Rothe, August 1, 2007 for more truth go to http://www.kevinrothe.biz/
